thinking businessman“Let us individually consider what is the record made in the books of heaven concerning our life and character, and our attitude toward God. Has our love for God been increasing during the past year? If Christ is indeed abiding in our hearts, we shall love God, we shall love to obey all His commandments, and this love will continually deepen and strengthen. If we represent Christ to the world, we shall be pure in heart, in life, in character; we shall be holy in conversation; there will be no guile in our hearts or upon our lips. Let us examine our past life and see if we have given evidence of our love for Jesus by seeking to be like Him, and by working, as He worked, to save those for whom He died.”

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

Why You Should Attend – A GYC Testimony

Thank you to AHE Mom Tami  for sharing her family’s experiences with GYC.

GYC (Generation of Youth for Christ) is a conference once a year that is for a targeted age group of 18-35 in the Seventh day Adventist church. http://gycweb.org/   However, did you know a lot of families also attend as well as older folk??  It is true!!  I would encourage you to check out the GYC website and click on the ‘At the Cross’ convention box on the main page for more details on this year’s conference.  This year it will be held in Phoenix, AZ,  December 31, 2014—Jan 4, 2015.  For those of us on the west coast this is GOOD news!

When our family attended GYC for the first time 7 yrs ago my husband and I were shocked.  We had no idea that there was that many young adults (thousands of them) in the Adventist church that were wanting to do more than just go to church every week!   These kids were on fire for the Lord and we were amazed and thrilled to see this!!  We then looked at each other and said we have to go to GYC every year!  Besides hearing about what these young people are doing for the Lord, you will also have many opportunities through individual seminars speakers and evening meetings that will grow you spiritually and inspire you to be the servant the Lord wants us all to be.

The food is good and is vegan.  They provide two meals a day, breakfast and late lunch.  People that want to eat supper just go to eat at area restaurants.  There is a exhibit hall where many ministries and schools have booths.  This also gives students a opportunity to learn about several SDA colleges or academies as well as ministries.

Is there evangelism?  YES!  Half of one of the conference days there is opportunity to evangelize the city where the conference is being held.  In the past there has been health expo, door to door work, local area door to door work as well.  Last year many buses picked up conference attendees (all ages) and took them to go door to door in different communities.  Many people sign up for Bible studies….it is really amazing to hear what happens during the evangelism report that evening or the next morning in the mtg.  There no meetings for small children.  They have also had a volunteer orchestra as well as choir almost every year I believe.

We continue to attend GYC as a family vacation.  We get to see different parts of the country each year and attend a conference that continues to inspire us to grow our Christian walk with the Lord.  We hope to see each of you there this year!!  Email if you have questions:  Tami:  beatys4@hotmail.com

Thinking About High School ~Bible~

Graduation cap and textbooks

Thinking about high school Bible curriculum? Things to consider as you make your choices: Does your child have a clear understanding of the beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist church? Has your child ever read extended portions of the Bible? Has your child ever read a Spirit of Prophecy book?Does your student want to study alone or with you or even the pastor? If your student has not yet developed the habit of a personal devotional time, then you have both a starting point and goal for a Bible curriculum. Otherwise, start with an end goal in mind and discuss with your high schooler ways to accomplish that goal. Since most high schoolers are at the point of independent study, your primary responsibility will be to provide your student with the materials that fit his learning style.

Suggestions for study:
*Use a Bible reading plan to read through the Bible in a year or two.
*Read or listen through the Conflict of the Ages series (original/study guides) (modern English)
*Pair Bible reading with Conflict of the Ages series with Encounter study series(scroll down to bottom of page)
*Complete a Bible marking plan, either themed or doctrinal-based
*Read a how-to-study-the-Bible book (podcast)
*Take a dual-enrollment Bible class online from an SDA college/university(Southern) (Andrews)
*Work with pastor or bible worker in giving Bible studies to others

Motivation Monday

“The neglect of home religion, the neglect to train your children, is most displeasing to God. If one of your children were in the river, battling with the waves and in imminent danger of drowning, what a life ringstir there would be! What efforts would be made, what prayers offered, what enthusiasm manifested, to save the human life! But here are your children out of Christ, their souls unsaved. Perhaps they are even rude and uncourteous, a reproach to the Adventist name. They are perishing without hope and without God in the world, and you are careless and unconcerned.

What example do you give your children? What order do you have at home? Your children should be educated to be kind, thoughtful of others, gentle, easy to be entreated, and, above everything else, to respect religious things and feel the importance of the claims of God. They should be taught to respect the hour of prayer; they should be required to rise in the morning so as to be present at family worship.”

praying hands“Amid the perils of these last days, the only safety of the youth lies in ever-increasing watchfulness and prayer. The youth who finds his joy in reading the Word of God, and in the hour of prayer, will be constantly refreshed by drafts from the fountain of life. He will attain a height of moral excellence and a breadth of thought of which others cannot conceive. Communion with God encourages good thoughts, noble aspirations, clear perceptions of truth, and lofty purposes of action. Those who thus connect themselves with God are acknowledged by Him as His sons and daughters. They are constantly reaching higher and still higher, obtaining clearer views of God and of eternity, until the Lord makes them channels of light and wisdom to the world…. The strength acquired in prayer to God will prepare us for our daily duties.”
