Homeschool Survey, Summer 2020

We hope you wouldn’t mind taking a few minutes to complete a short survey.  This will help us with developing help for families for the coming year.  Click the link below to be directed to the survey (on a Google Form).  No personal information is collected, we’re just trying to get a good view of the current homeschooling population with Seventh-day Adventists.  🙂

HOMESCHOOL SURVEY

We’re praying for you all!  God will see you through!

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.  Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. …and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”  Ephesians 6:10, 11, 17 KJV

Let’s Talk: Worship

Hello everyone!  We are trying something new.  Please forgive the many umm’s you will hear… hopefully that will improve in time.  🙂  I am hoping that this will be a way to connect with you each week.  You can subscribe to our YouTube channel for those times you might miss our blog posts.  We are looking for a title for this encouragement, please feel free to submit any ideas for a new title.  We are open to suggestions and comments, but please be kind.  This is new to us and we are still learning!  Now that the preliminaries are out of the way… onto the video.  I pray that it encourages you this week.

Sharing My ❤: New Starts…

It’s January; the beginning of the new year. A time many think about making a new start. A time of year that tends to draw us to look at new goals. A time of the year that slows down for reflection. A new year for new goals and a chance to do better than last year.

I am not one to normally use January 1st as a time for restarting things in my life. However, having just served on the Nominating Committee, I have had time to look forward and to also review the past year. Not only at church, but with myself as well. Where am I headed; where does God want me to put my focus?

I have felt that I perhaps have failed in many parts of my life. It causes me much grief to look back to see how I may have hurt others, to see how I may have moved forward before God was calling me, to see how I made so many selfish choices. I have let those things stall me. I have let Satan throw them into my thoughts time and time again, only to shrink back from moving where I feel God is calling me to go. I have let Satan distract me with things that wasted my time. I have let others steer me into much busywork (I hate to say no) instead of following the things that I feel God has placed on my heart to do or to share.

I know that I cannot let Satan win at this battle. I need to trust that God is leading and step forward. I need to shout at Satan, “Get back! Jesus died for me. He died to save me from my sins. He died that I might be forgiven… and given a new start.” Maybe you, too, feel that calling, yet are unsure about stepping forward. Maybe it’s time?

You will see some changes around The Adventist Home Educator. They may come on slowly, as I learn how to incorporate these new ideas within our home schedule and gain the skills to make some of the ideas become realities. I pray that you are patient with the upcoming changes, with the challenges I will face and with the mistakes I am sure to make. However, I pray that you will be blessed by the sharing to come.

So, I guess for me, this is a new start. A new start to put on my Christian Armor (Ephesians 6) and humbly, yet boldly step forward. I would love your encouragement and your prayers for me personally and for the ministry of The Adventist Home Educator.

Be sure to check out our Instagram account, our Pinterest account, sign up to follow our blog and our newsletter so you can be sure to see the new things coming your way. Feel free to share this with your homeschooling friends and family. Also young families may be encouraged with thoughts shared here. We are thankful for those that help us share and encourage Adventist families.

Warmly, ~Melissa, The Adventist Home Educator

An Uncertain Sound…

“For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?” 1 Corinthians 14:8

My heart was drawn to this text this morning. While in context, this portion is speaking about speaking in tongues, I was drawn in my thinking to look at the battle ahead. My thoughts went to the three angels’ messages and how if we are not prepared, how will we be able to share the messages. As we raise up our children, are we not to train them up for the battle ahead?

There is an important work to be finished in the last days. We know it, we claim it, but do we live it? Are we living to prepare ourselves, and our children, for these events on the horizon? As homeschooling parents, do we have this battle in mind as we go through our days? Are we preparing them in their education to face this battle? Are we giving them the tools? Are we teaching them knowledge that they can use to share the message of Jesus with others? Are we helping them develop a character that is worthy to declare the messages that Jesus is coming soon?

Or rather, are we a trumpet with an uncertain sound? Are we jumping from program to program? Are we continually looking for the next best curriculum that is fancy and colorful to get their attention? Where are our attentions? Are they on our children? Or are they on visiting social media to find the next best thing out there? Are we so busy that we don’t have time to prepare and rather just survive each day doing the minimum possible just to check it off our list so we can get to other fun stuff in our days?

There are many good things out there, but often times we get so busy with the fun, new, exciting things, that we forget our calling to prepare our children for the battle ahead. Is your focus clear? Is your battle plan understandable? Do you know what trumpet sound you need to prepare your children for? How much of our focus is on this soon coming event?

This verse today, really spoke to me. Am I being a clear sounding trumpet to my children? Am I understandable? Am I declaring the Lord’s messages to my children, all day long, so they are prepared for the times ahead? Am I focusing on their character? Am I giving them knowledge so that they may be better prepared for this season? Or am I spending too much time bumping shoulders with others that I forget the vision the Lord has put in front of me? Do my educational methods prepare my children with understanding that they can stand alone (without my guidance) and do the work of the Lord?

This verse certainly brought a lot of thoughts to my mind. Did it strike a cord with you? “For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?” 1 Corinthians 14:8

On Thursdays, we will begin to focus on preparation, here at The Adventist Home Educator. It’s a perfect day, as it is preparation day, and a perfect day to not only prepare for the Sabbath, but to do a little self-check and see how we are doing with our battle plans. May we keep in mind the fight that is before us.
