“Athletes cheerfully comply with the conditions in order to be trained for the highest taxation of their physical strength. They do not indulge appetite, but put a constant restraint upon themselves, refraining from food which would weaken or lessen the full power of any of their organs. Yet they fight “as one that beateth the air,” while Christians are in a real contest. Combatants in the games seek for mere perishable laurels. Christians have before them a glorious crown of immortality, incorruptible. And in this heavenly race there is plenty of room for all to obtain the prize. Not one will fail if he runs well, if he does according to the light which shines upon him, exercising his abilities which, to the best of his knowledge, he has kept in a healthful condition. . . . “

“In the highest sense the work of education and the work of redemption are one, for in education, as in redemption, “other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” “It was the good pleasure of the Father that in Him should all the fullness dwell.” 1 Corinthians 3:11; Colossians 1:19.

Under changed conditions, true education is still conformed to the Creator’s plan, the plan of the Eden school. Adam and Eve received instruction through direct communion with God; we behold the light of the knowledge of His glory in the face of Christ.”

Motivation Monday

In the history of Joseph, Daniel, and his fellows, we see how the golden chain of truth may bind the youth to the throne of God. They could not be tempted to turn aside from their course of integrity. They valued the favor of God above the favor and praise of princes, and God loved them and spread His shield over them. Because of their faithfulintegrity, because of their determination to honor God above every human power, the Lord signally honored them before men. They were honored by the Lord God of hosts, whose power is over all the works of His hand in heaven above and the earth beneath. These youth were not ashamed to display their true colors. Even in the court of the king, in their words, their habits, their practices, they confessed their faith in the Lord God of heaven. They refused to bow to any earthly mandate that detracted from the honor of God. They had strength from heaven to confess their allegiance to God.

You should be prepared to follow the example of these noble youth. Never be ashamed of your colors; put them on, unfurl them to the gaze of men and angels. Do not be controlled by false modesty, by false prudence which suggests to you a course of action contrary to this advice. By your choice words and a consistent course of action, by your propriety, your earnest piety, make a telling confession of your faith, determined that Christ shall occupy the throne in the soul temple; and lay your talents without reserve at His feet to be employed in His service.

Prayer

“And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”

Matthew 21:22 NKJV

Oh Gracious Father,

We ask you to be with our homeschooling families. Forgive us for the areas we fail in. Open our eyes to the task before us. Help us to prioritize the things in our days so that we are able to grow as individuals, to teach our children more of Your Word, and to shine for You. Give us strength for this week.

Thank you, loving Father.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

“Home is to be the center of the purest and most elevated affection. Peace, harmony, affection, and happiness should be perseveringly cherished every day, until these precious things abide in the hearts of those who compose the family. The plant of love must be carefully nourished, else it will die. Every good principle must be cherished if we would have it thrive in the soul. That which Satan plants in the heart –envy, jealousy, evil surmising, evil speaking, impatience, prejudice, selfishness, covetousness, and vanity– must be uprooted. If these evil things are allowed to remain in the soul, they will bear fruit by which many shall be defiled. Oh, how many cultivate the poisonous plants that kill out the precious fruits of love and defile the soul!”

The Bottle

This is a  a bottle.  It  is my water bottle.  Anyone who is around me for long knows that I carry this bottle wherever I go. When I forget and leave it somewhere, I miss it.  Thankfully it is usually left in a place I can retrieve it.

Makes me think…

This is a Bible.  This is my Bible.   Those around me know that this is my Bible.  But I don’t physically carry it with me wherever I go. But, I can carry what I know from this book wherever I go.  When I don’t have it,  I should miss it like I do my water bottle.

I think of Psalm 119:11

“Your word have I hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You”

These are children.  These are my children.

They need to see that I have  hidden Gods word in my heart that I might not sin.

My thoughts, attitudes,  actions,  words, and my countenance all reveal whether I am as devoted to “carrying” my Bible as I am to “carrying” my water bottle.

“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”

2 Corinthians 12:9

Samuel, the Prayed for Boy

Today, I would just like to share two paragraphs about Hannah that really encouraged me to be praying more for my children. We can spend lots of time and money trying to educate our children, but if we’re not praying for them, we will not have the same outcome. When we’re praying for them, we can have the aid of the angels in training them. I was also reminded of the importance of my own character. To be a real Christian in my own home is no small task, but Hannah could do it, so I know that there’s strength available for us too. “Hannah was a woman of fervent piety. Gentle and unassuming, her character was marked with deep earnestness and a lofty faith.” (Patriarchs and Prophets, 572 ) Wouldn’t you like that to be said of you? I sure would.

I hope these words encourage you, like they did me.

“When separated from her child, the faithful mother’s solicitude did not cease. Every day he was the subject of her prayers. Every year she made, with her own hands, a robe of service for him; and as she went up with her husband to worship at Shiloh, she gave the child this reminder of her love. Every fiber of the little garment had been woven with a prayer that he might be pure, noble, and true. She did not ask for her son worldly greatness, but she earnestly pleaded that he might attain that greatness which Heaven values–that he might honor God and bless his fellow men.

“What a reward was Hannah’s! and what an encouragement to faithfulness is her example! There are opportunities of inestimable worth, interests infinitely precious, committed to every mother. The humble round of duties which women have come to regard as a wearisome task should be looked upon as a grand and noble work. It is the mother’s privilege to bless the world by her influence, and in doing this she will bring joy to her own heart. She may make straight paths for the feet of her children, through sunshine and shadow, to the glorious heights above. But it is only when she seeks, in her own life, to follow the teachings of Christ that the mother can hope to form the character of her children after the divine pattern. The world teems with corrupting influences. Fashion and custom exert a strong power over the young. If the mother fails in her duty to instruct, guide, and restrain, her children will naturally accept the evil, and turn from the good. Let every mother go often to her Saviour with the prayer, ‘Teach us, how shall we order the child, and what shall we do unto him?’ Let her heed the instruction which God has given in His word, and wisdom will be given her as she shall have need.” (Patriarchs and Prophets, 572, 573)

These words challenged me to spend more time in prayer for my children. My new goal is to spend one hour a week in prayer for each one of my children. Would you like to join me in this challenge? And let’s not forget to pray that we can have Jesus shining through us too.
