Motivation Monday

Young student“Children are in great need of proper education, in order that they may be of use in the world. But any effort that exalts intellectual culture above moral training is misdirected. Instructing, cultivating, polishing, and refining youth and children should be the main burden with both parents and teachers. Close reasoners and logical thinkers are few, for the reason that false influences have checked the development of the intellect. The supposition of parents and teachers that continual study would strengthen the intellect, has proved erroneous; for in many cases it has had the opposite effect.”

AHE Website Maintenance scheduled for tonight

Hello everyone!

I wanted to let you know that the AHE website will be down temporarily. We will be moving to a new server. The domain name of adventisthomeducator.org will move to the new server tonight sometime after 9pm central time. It may be unavailable for a couple days, depending on how many unexpected problems occur. Please pray that our move goes smoothly!

The website will be available until 9pm central time, for sure… if you need to access something. After 9pm CT, please use the following link to get to the old site, if you need to reach information.

Blog posts may be interrupted… but we will do our best to get everything transferred without too much confusion!

Praying you are all well today!
Warmly,
Melissa

The Bird Count is Coming – Mark Your Calendars!

GBBCblogbutton_En_1_2014The Great Backyard Bird Count begins in just under a month.    This is an awesome opportunity for your homeschoolers to make an impact on science!
Launched in 1998 by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society, the Great Backyard Bird Count was the first online citizen-science project to collect data on wild birds and to display results in near real-time.

The bird count is easy, fun and is an excellent foundation for a unit study on birds!  We will feature many resources to help you plan and build an exciting and interesting nature study for your children.   Visit The Backyard Bird Count site to learn more and get started with this great project!

Don’t have a blog? That’s okay! Leave a comment to tell us what’s new in your homeschool.

Be sure to join us on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month for Show & Share.

Motivation Monday

“We need to think more of God and less of ourselves. If we would but think of him as often as we have evidence of his care for us, we would keep him ever in our thoughts, and would delight to talk of him and praise him. We talk of temporal things because we have an interest in them. We talk of our friends thinking businessmanbecause we love them; our joys and our sorrows are bound up with them. Yet we have infinitely greater reason to love God than to love our earthly friends; we receive more from him than from any other friend, and it should be the most natural thing in the world to make God first in all our thoughts, to talk of his goodness and tell of his power, and to respond to his love by our free-will gifts and offerings for his cause. All things belong to God; and the rich gifts he has bestowed upon us, the glories of the heavens, the beauties of nature, the bounties of his providence, are not for us to worship; they were not given to absorb our thoughts and love so that we should have naught to give to God; they are to constantly remind us of him, and to bind us in bonds of love and gratitude to our gracious Benefactor. Oh! I entreat you who profess to love God to be less self-caring. Center your affections upon Jesus, your Redeemer. Give up all for him, be willing to make any and every sacrifice to save souls for whom he died. Give him your loving homage, your willing service, and he will bestow upon you the priceless gift of everlasting life.”
