Creative Idea ~ Month-in-Review Scrapbook Page

Source: the-lilypad.com

This is a creative & fun idea that can be easily adopted for  creating a homeschool journal/yearbook.   It’s also a great way to preserve the memories of  outdoor activities , field trips  or special projects.  Your older students could easily complete this ‘review assignment’ on their own.   Lots of fun possibilities with this idea!

“If you are the age where you are beginning to read… You’re not just learning to read so that you can read stop signs… Reading the Bible is the most important thing you can be reading.” Pastor Joe Reeves, Day 1 of Week of Prayer

Here are some free copywork pages to help the younger children in learning their weekly memory verses that correspond with their Sabbath School lessons for this quarter.

Guest Post ~ Teaching Children to Choose the Right

mosesHebrews 11:25
Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

One of the most important things that I wanted to teach my children when they were very young was how to make decisions. I gave them opportunities to choose. For example, I let them choose the types of food or clothes they wanted…without interference.  Mind you, this was  not on all matters.

I am a strong believer in individuality and freedom of expression (guided by God’s principles and law).

In this world, children as well as adults, have to choose. We must choose to walk in the path of Christ or the path of the world.

One of the best ways to teach children to make right decisions is reading about Bible characters who chose the right amidst very trying times. I think of Esther and the courage she displayed as well as the three Hebrew boys. There is Daniel, Joseph and Moses. This list goes on and on.

“The Bible heroes of faith are to be our example…” The Ellen G. White 1888 Materials, Page 477

Are you allowing room for your little ones to make small decisions?  Do you teach them about the Bible heroes?

Motivation Monday

“Parents are entitled to a degree of love and respect which is due to no other person. God Himself, who has placed upon them a responsibility for the souls committed to their charge, has ordained that during the earlier years of life, parents shall stand in the place of God to their children. And he who rejects the rightful authority of his parents, is rejecting the authority of God.

The fifth commandment requires the children not only to yield respect, submission, and obedience to their parents, but also to give them love and tenderness, to lighten their cares, to guard their reputation, and to succor and comfort them in old age.”

Patriarchs and Prophets, 308.
